Smith College initially built an in-house application for tracking expensive lab equipment but they needed something simple that could both track equipment and schedule its use.

The Problem

Prior to working with Periodic for their scheduling system “adding equipment or new users was a very convoluted process” said Tony Caldanaro, Director of Computing and Technology Services at Smith College.

The Solution

Over time they found new uses for the platform such as being able to track usage by student ID. Now other departments are seeing a need for the platform for other things like advising appointments and professor office hours. 

Results

Using the platform was instrumental in the month of June as they were trying to navigate the end of the semester amidst the Coronavirus Pandemic. “The platform was easy to administer and put the control in the hands of administrators. “
